Feis Eige
Feis
Eige is part of Feisean nan Gaidheal, the association of tuition festivals
in the Highlands and Islands, "feis" (pronounced "feysh") being the Gaelic
word for festival.
It is a festival of traditional music and culture which this year took
place on the 13th & 14th of July. It is a family event, aiming at
youngsters (8 to 18) primarily , but also offering adults and younger
children (5 to 7) a chance to participate. This years feis was a great
success
The
feis offers intensive tuition in small groups with experienced tutors
in the following subjects - button key accordion, fiddle, tin-whistle,
guitar, percussion, ceilidh dancing and step dancing.
Starting on the Friday afternoon, there are three half-day tuition sessions
with art and Gaelic games also on offer, ending with an evening dance
on the Saturday evening and a session on Sunday afternoon, depending how
late the dances finishes!.
Previous
knowledge is not essential: beginners have a chance to try the instruments
of their choice whilst those already learning benefit from expert guidance
from tutors who number some of the best known traditional musicians in
the Highlands, such as Ian MacFarlane, Ross Martin or Leo McCann, to name
but a few of the tutors who have taught on Eigg!
For
more information and booking form, please contact the Feis secretary,
Camille Dressler on 01687 4824 10, email, camille.d@talk 21.com or writing
to her at Cuagach, Isle of Eigg , PH42 4RL.
